Founder of The Yoga Den by Water & Company

Welcome. I’m Gretchen, and I’m honored to bring the yoga studio experience to you—wherever you are on your journey. I specialize in somatosensory yoga in the Hatha tradition, gently guiding students toward greater body awareness, mobility, and emotional balance.

As a trauma-informed yoga instructor with a Master’s in Counseling, my work centers on using mindful movement and breathwork to heal grief and trauma held in our bodies. My approach is grounded, compassionate, and rooted in over 30 years of personal practice.

My Background

For more than 30 years, I have worked with high school students, as a high school counselor and psychology teacher in Juneau, Alaska. I continue to share my love for education through teaching Educational Psychology at the University of Alaska Southeast, and leading classes at The Alaska Club.

In the summers, I host Destination Retreats—a series of yoga and wellness retreats rooted in Alaska’s natural beauty. I also curate private yoga experiences for weddings, special occasions, and small-group events.

My Yoga Journey

Yoga first found me as a teenager recovering from sports injuries caused by years of figure skating, tennis, and softball. Slowing down and tuning in became necessary—not only to heal my body, but to process deeper emotional wounds.

When I was 14, I lost my mother. Yoga became more than movement—it became my anchor through grief and transformation. That early experience showed me how the body holds trauma, and how yoga can help us gently release what we carry.

As I’ve navigated persistent back and foot pain in adulthood, yoga continues to teach me how to listen to my body, move with intention, and reconnect with myself.

Why I Teach

In 2022, my yoga journey brought me to Rishikesh, India—the birthplace of yoga—where my training reaffirmed what I’ve long believed: yoga is a path to healing, self-discovery, and renewal.

I feel especially called to work with those who are:
✨ Healing their inner child
✨ Seeking mobility and independence as they age
✨ Looking for balance—physically, mentally, and emotionally

Yoga reminds us that we are strong, vibrant, and whole—at any age and any stage of life.

Let’s Practice

Whether you’re new to yoga or returning to your mat after time away, I’m here to meet you exactly where you are. Through somatosensory practices, breathwork, and guided self-awareness, I invite you into a space of compassion and healing.

From my heart to yours,
~ Gretchen Elizabeth Kriegmont

This isn’t about touching your toes. It’s about tuning into your inner world.
At The Yoga Den, classes are designed for seekers — those curious about how the body holds memory, stress, and strength. Rooted in somatosensory practice and the Hatha tradition, this is where healing meets movement.
Sometimes the object of the journey is not the end, but the journey itself.
